SMACNA DETROIT 47TH ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
Please see minutes for the meeting held on Thursday, January 12th at the Detroit Athletic Club. Minutes
THESE PROGRAMS WILL PUT MONEY IN YOUR POCKET
During the past several years contractors have expressed certain money problems to the Association Staff. We hear you say that you have trouble collecting outstanding debts, retentions are being held longer, change orders are affecting your jobs and it is difficult to borrow money. Above all else, you tell us that you cannot compete against most non-union contractors.
Needless to say, all of the information coming out of SMACNA National has tremendous value and often provides financial assistance. We hope you are taking advantage of the monthly SMAC News. Are you going online periodically to see what is being presented each day to members of SMACNA? If you have not gotten your password, it is necessary for you to contact SMACNA National directly. We urge you to do so as soon as possible at 703-803-2980.
SMWIA Local Union #80 is conjunction with SMACNA Detroit continues to provide relief against non-union competition. Are you taking advantage of these programs?
Resolution 78 / Special Resolution 78 - provides a vehicle through which Local #80 contractors may capture work that would be obtained by non-union contractors because of the differential in wage rates and fringes between the competing contractors. It allows for a mix of Residential and HVAC workers to lower your overall crew costs in bidding jobs.
Target Program - provides direct payment to contractors for Local #80 man hours performed on Target Jobs. Compute your best price to get the job including Target Money to help you compete.
Industry Apprenticeship Reimbursement Fund - this is the simplest program. All contractors who employ apprentices are reimbursed at the rate of 100% per apprentice. It is only necessary for you to submit the Apprentice Report (which shows that the student was in class) along with your invoice on a monthly basis. Some of you have left thousands of dollars on the table for failure to submit on a timely basis. Do not let the months go by without invoicing your school days.
SAFETY MODULE TRAINING FOR LOCAL #80 JOURNEYMEN
All employed journeymen sheet metal workers may be trained under the MUST/Pure Safety Module Training Program and the employer may not discriminate regarding the taking of said training.
