SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association) Metropolitan Detroit Chapter is a non-profit construction association which serves a membership of Metro Detroit-based sheet metal contractors who are signatory to our labor partners Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 80. The core function of our association is marketing and promotion of our contractors and union partners within the construction industry along with facilitating labor contract negotiations. Our industry promotion activities include managing labor relation programs, providing education in safety, construction codes and technical specifications, and planning membership social events and industry meetings.
Along with providing the best services and products available in the sheet metal industry, SMACNA Detroit involved in labor relations activities on behalf of its members with Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation International Association (SMART) Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 80, representing approximately 100 contractors who employ some 900 sheet metal workers throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Proud to be involved with SMART Local Union 80, we have been an integral part of establishing continuing education for our workers, both apprentices and journeymen, as well as service and residential employees. The Local Union 80 Apprentice Training facility is one of the best in the country which graduates top grade journeymen after five years of construction training and education.
Association volunteers include our Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and many committees, all of which help to run the organization to make it a first class association.
SMACNA Detroit Association and its Boards and Committees are intimately involved with the Inspection Community, Legislative and Political Action, Safety, Code Enforcement and other technical and educational programs on an ongoing basis, giving our contractor members a sharp edge on their competition.
